Kids Ministry Idea: Don't be afraid to do silly stuff.

Don’t be afraid to do silly stuff. The sillier, the better. Everyone (and I do mean everyone) loves it! I can’t count the number of ridiculous and silly things I’ve done over the years in the name of Sunday School fun and silliness; smashing eggs on my forehead is just one of them. Especially around Easter, this egg smashing game is a favorite.

If you want to try out this silly game with the eggs then this is what you’ll need:

  1. A dozen eggs - all hardboiled except for 4-5 that are left raw. These must be unmarked so there’s no way anyone can tell the difference between the eggs.

  2. A plastic drop cloth to save the carpet/floor from egg mess.

  3. A host or MC to keep things running smoothly and to organize the game, hype up the kids, etc.

  4. Some hype background music to really pull the intense feeling all together.

  5. Very invested egg carton holder helper(s).

  6. Some wet wipes and paper towels for cleaning up the broken raw eggs.

This is how you play the game:

  • Establish that you’ve got 12 eggs in the carton - 7 or 8 are hardboiled…and the rest are still raw. They all look the same, there are no markings, nobody knows which is which!

  • Each participant chooses their egg. They can shake it, rattle it, roll it, but that’s their egg and once they’ve touched it they cannot put it back.

  • At the same time the participants must smash the egg on their foreheads. If it’s a raw egg, it’s a dripping, gross mess! That’s so fun! If it’s hardboiled, then the participant just gets a good knock on their noggin.

  • The first participant to smash two raw eggs on their forehead loses the game. Or, if you’d like to add a positive twist on the game, it can also be the first participant to smash two raw eggs on their forehead wins the game. You make the rules for your own games!

3 SUPER SUGGESTIONS:

  • Hype everything up. Even the smallest things, make them BIG and make them FUN. Take this egg-cellent example of the egg smash. Sure, we could have just brought out the tray of eggs and said casually, “Okay, first one to smash a raw egg on their head loses. Go.” BoRiNg! Hype it up, man! We even had a hype man, well, a hype woman in a wig, to help create this intense atmosphere of silliness. Lots of cheering, lots of laughs, and lots of stickiness.

  • Always wear fun wigs. If you don’t already have a storage box full of random wigs, get you one. It’s really easy to build up a costume box with fun wigs, outfits and accessories. A great time to stock up on wigs and accessories is after Halloween when things are on sale!

  • Definitely use random accents. This is a good follow-up to the wigs (and costumes) - if you have on a silly wig you should also have on a silly accent. It just makes sense, right?! It’s silly character building 101. Plus it’s much easier for some people to do silly stuff and dress up in silly outfits if they’re a completely different version of their real-life self.
